From the French Department...

In Français, we are starting C.F.O.O.

(Le Club Fabuleux des Orateurs et Oratrices)!

This is a public speaking "club" that will help students improve their oral French skills through short presentations.
There are nine different presentations, separated into three categories: Research, Opinion and Creativity.

For the first presentation, students must choose one of the three Opinion options. They will then prepare their short oral presentation, fulfilling all of the criteria listed on the page they have in their binder.

For Je préfère, students name and explain five of their favorite things.
For Je déteste, students name and explain five things they dislike.
For J'aimerais, students choose a Would you Rather type of question and explain what their choice would be.

Students should also keep in mind eye contact, volume and expression during their speech. They should be sure to speak only in French and try to add a piece of themselves into their presentation.

The first CFOO presentation will take place on
Thursday, November 27th.

Remembrance Day

Students did a great job presenting at the Remembrance Day Ceremony this morning!

Students,

How will you observe Remembrance Day this year?

You could wear a poppy.

You could thank a veteran.

You could observe a moment of silence.

You could attend a ceremony.

You could learn more about the war.

You could remember.

Science Design Process!

It’s time for the first Science Design Process Project of the year

Students must create an eye catching poster to demonstrate their understanding of energy.

They may colour, draw, paint, or glue on pictures.

This project should not cost anything and should be completed independently by the student at home.

Students have had ample time to complete their rough draft in class and will finish the project at home.

The poster must have:

*a theme

*at least one example of each type of energy

Students must also complete:

*the component table with their examples

*the reflection page

This Science Design Process Project is due Wednesday, November 12th.

Speechtastic!

This year in English Language Arts, students will participate in Speechtastic, where, by preparing different short speeches, they will improve their speaking skills, develop their listening skills and use their creativity!

Their first speech of the year is an Comparative Speech, a speech given to explain why something is better than something else.
Students have chosen two sets of two somethings and given three reasons why one is better than the other.
Students have also practiced their presentation, by speaking clearly and calmly, without long pauses, umms or misused 'likes' and by using appropriate expression, volume and speed.

Presentations will take place
this week!
