From the French Department...

In Français, it's time for another CFOO (Le Club Fabuleux des Orateurs et Oratrices)!

This is a public speaking "club" that will help students improve their oral French skills through short speeches.

For this presentation, students must choose one of the three Creativity options:
C'est vendu - where they present a commercial for an item
C'est artistique - where they present an art masterpiece they created
C'est inventé - where they show off three creative uses for an everyday object.

They will then prepare their short oral presentation, fulfilling all of the criteria (listed on the page they have in their binder).

Students should also keep in mind eye contact, volume and expression during their presentation.

The CFOO Presentations will take place on Wednesday, February 4th.

Art is Alive!

Students had the lucky chance to meet the local artist Kal Barteski this morning!

She showed us her artwork, talked about how she creates art and then demonstrated how to make continuous line drawings.

T.G.I.F!

Students had the chance to individually reflect by completing a TGIF page and then they shared their answers in a sharing circle.

As homework, students should share their page with someone at home.

Happy Friday!

Happy Character Day!

From the English Department...

The Caldecott Medal is awarded every year by the Association for Library Service to Children to the artist of the most distinguished picture book for children.

Here in Room 18, we read and evaluated a pile of picture books to make our predictions on who should win!

We'll find out if our predictions are correct when the 2026 Caldecott Medal is awarded on Monday, January 26th!

Happy Wordy Day!

It was a spirit day: Wear Words!

Students also attended an I Love to Read assembly, had another teacher read to them and received the information about ERB's Read-a-Thon!

Hooray for Reading!

What We Have in Common!

There's something new by our door: it's the Commonality Chart!

Students meet in partners and discuss together to find something they have in common. Two examples: "favorite season is autumn" and "have an older brother". The findings are then presented to the rest of the class and recorded on the Commonality Chart.

Hopefully by the end of the year, each student will have found something in common with each member of the class!
